The outcomes of the programme include:

  • Enhancing the early career academic's understanding, and application of the principles and processes of the curriculum development.
  • ​Critically reflecting on, engaging with and enhancing the early career academic’s teaching and learning practices 
  • Improving the early career academic’s understanding, development and implementation of appropriate assessment practices
  • Supporting early career academics to be engaged in academic research by improving their research skills
  • Learning from others in a supportive and collegial environment

The Early Career Academics Advancement Programme (ECAAP) is a professional progression programme, intentionally designed to enhance the calibre of Nelson Mandela University’s emerging academics. The programme aims to support early career academics to fulfil the roles and responsibilities of an academic at Mandela University. The programme’s purpose is to enable early career academics’ professional development, instilling in them skills, knowledge(s) and abilities which are required to advance their academic careers. It focuses on areas that include but are not limited to a scholarly approach to teaching; collaboration and networking; communication; research methodologies and supervision of research; and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
